Switching to Solar Energy Plans

All our energy plans come with a solar energy component that is generated from Sunseap’s portfolio of solar systems in Singapore, making solar energy accessible to every household without the need for you to own a rooftop.

Solar energy provides you with an avenue to do your part for the environment. You can reduce your carbon footprint and slow down the effects of global warming. Solar energy from Sunseap is competitively priced and is offered via electricity packages with different levels of solar energy to allow you to make a positive contribution to the environment.

When you sign up for any of our solar energy plans, every kWh of solar energy you consume will help displace a kWh of electricity needed from the traditional power generator, up to the amount of solar energy component in the plan you signed up for. This reduces our carbon footprint.

For instance, if you are on our SUNSEAP-100 plan and your monthly electricity usage is around 450kWh, you will essentially be reducing about 450kWh of electricity per month generated from the traditional power generator, thus contributing to reducing our country’s carbon footprint.

Yes, all our energy plans come with rates lower than the SP tariff. The amount of savings depends on the energy plan you choose.

Regardless of the weather or the retailer you switch to, you will enjoy the same reliable electricity supply. This is because the national power grid is operated and maintained by SP and your supply of electricity will come from this grid.

Since 2001, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) has been progressively opening up the electricity market to provide consumers with more choices and flexibility as to who they can buy electricity from. This initiative – the Open Electricity Market – is now open to residents whose postal codes start with 58-78 and is expected to be rolled out in zones to the rest of Singapore in 2019*.

Sunseap’s solar energy exported into the grid is verified by the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS).

Sunseap’s solar energy is generated across a portfolio of solar systems in Singapore, spanning more than a thousand buildings including HDB estates and commercial buildings such as SMRT, Jurong Port, Panasonic, ST Kinetics and PSA.

Depending on the plan you are on, Sunseap will match a percentage of your electricity usage with solar energy generated from our PV systems and exported to the national grid.

No, you do not need to rewire anything. Sunseap exports the solar energy that we generate to the national power grid maintained by SP Group. SP Group then transmits and distributes the electricity to your home through this grid.

Sunseap has consistently provided solar energy for our commercial and industrial customers, including Apple and Microsoft. You can be assured that Sunseap will continue to supply sufficient energy to meet the electricity demand of our customers from our portfolio of solar panels on more than 1,000 buildings across Singapore which continues to expand progressively to match demand for solar energy.

Sunseap generates electricity from our portfolio of solar PV systems and deliver it to you via the national grid. This means you can get solar energy without installing solar panels on your roof. Our Solar Energy Plans make solar energy more accessible to all households in Singapore as residence type or infrastructure is no longer a limitation for consumers to enjoy solar energy.

By choosing our Solar Energy Plans, you are choosing to purchase electricity generated from solar power, a clean and renewable energy that does not harm the environment in the process of generation. At Sunseap, the solar energy generated is audited and certified by SERIS at the end of each year. Carbon neutral on the other hand refers to offsetting your carbon emissions with carbon credits. This means that your electricity is still generated through conventional, non-renewable means.

Sunseap’s solar panels have back-to-back warranties by the manufacturers for up to 25 years. Thereafter, depending on the condition the panels will either be used as they are, or replaced by new ones. The panels that are replaced may be redeployed or recycled.


It is not compulsory to switch to a retailer. From 1 November 2018, only residents with postal codes starting from 58-78 are eligible to switch to other retailers. If your postal code starts with 58-78, that makes you eligible.

For all other residents, the Open Electricity Market will be rolling out by zones (please refer to picture below). You can also visit the Open Electricity Market website for further information.

There is no need for you to cancel your service with SP or any other electricity retailer. We will handle the transfer for you. We will notify you when your service with us has been activated.

All our energy plans do not require residents to change their existing meters. However, if you want to change to an AMI meter on your own volition, a meter installation fee of $42.80 (with GST) may apply.

You will need to provide the following:

  1. Identification card (NRIC) or FIN pass
  2. SP Account Number

If you are applying on behalf of the SP account holder, we would need a copy of the account holder’s authorization letter AND a copy of the SP account holder’s identification card.

Please approach SP Group to set up the SP account for your new residence first. Once you have received the SP Account Opening letter or your first SP bill, you can proceed to sign up for a solar energy plan at our online portal or mobile app.

You can apply for Sunseap’s Energy Plans as long as the SP bill for the residence is under your name.

Currently, security deposit is waived.

No. When you switch your electricity provider to a retailer, SP Group will use your security deposit to offset any account balance in your SP Group utilities account.

The SP tariff refers to the default electricity tariff rate that all residential households pay. It changes every quarter based on the actual cost of electricity.

If a customer terminates the contract before the expiry date, early termination charges based on the dwelling type will be applicable. The early termination charge is calculated based on a pre-determined amount multiplied by the number of remaining months left in the Solar Energy Plan. The pre-determined amount can be found in the Fact Sheet.

Each customer can sign up for more than one plan, limited to one Solar Energy Plan per service address.

Sunseap will invoice you based on meter data sent to us by SP Group.

Yes, all eligible household can still enjoy U-Save rebates at the same quantum as determined by Ministry of Finance.

U-Save rebates will be used to offset water, gas and refuse removal charges first. Any remaining amount will be used to offset electricity services with Sunseap.

If there is any excess voucher amount, it will be retained in your SP account to offset subsequent bills for non-electricity.

Sunseap Energy Pte Ltd will be billing you directly for your electricity services. You will receive monthly electronic bills sent to your email address. Payment options available will be indicated in your bills.

In line with our green efforts, we would like to encourage our customers to join us to go paperless by accepting eBills. However, if you wish to opt for paper bill, kindly email your request to customercare@sunseap.com and we will be in touch with you. Please note that there will be a monthly charge of $1.60 (with GST) for paper billing.

While we would like to extend the convenience to you, unfortunately we would require you to re-apply for a recurring payment mode with Sunseap when you switch over. However, we will make the application as easy as possible, and you only need to do it one-time to enjoy a hassle-free payment of your bills every month.
