Mr Lawrence WU
President & Executive Director
The Co-Founder and Director of Sunseap Group, Lawrence has more than 17 years of experience in investment banking, specializing in M&A and restructurings, reverse takeovers, schemes of arrangements and delisting of public companies. Prior to founding Sunseap Group, Lawrence held appointments at DBS Bank (Vice President), Macquarie (Vice President) and BNP Paribas (Director).
Lawrence spearheads the group’s efforts in capital raising, playing a vital role in raising the requisite funding for the group, and put in place the capital structure required for its Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) projects. These efforts helped set the foundation for the group’s subsequent projects. He is also the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Thirdrock ISSEA Advisers Pte Ltd, a corporate finance firm specialising in mergers & acquisitions, as well as strategic capital raising in Southeast Asia. He is also a Partner and Director of TRIREC Pte Ltd, a renewable energy investment firm that focuses on projects and companies in sustainability and de-carbonization.
Lawrence was named an honouree of the Spirit of Enterprise Award in 2017, an achievement he shares with his Co-Founder, Frank. Lawrence graduated from the Nanyang Technological University with First Class Honours in Accountancy in 2000, and he is both a Certified Public Accountant (Singapore) and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Mr Frank PHUAN
CEO & Executive Director
The Co-Founder and Director of Sunseap Group, Frank belongs to the second generation of a solar industry business that has been established for over 35 years. Together with his team, Frank helped grow a 5-men operation in Singapore to a 100 staff regional business spanning across regions including Singapore, Malaysia, India, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and Australia.
Frank has over 20 years of experience in the solar industry leading numerous projects and public speeches involving solar systems technologies, sustainability strategy, green buildings and infrastructure, greenhouse gas emission reduction, solar farm and rooftop solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) projects across Asia Pacific. Frank also played a key role in the engineering and reduction of the levelised cost of solar energy in Singapore.
Frank was awarded the distinguished Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award 2014, the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award (EYA) 2015, the PVSEC Special Award in 2016 in recognition of his contribution to the growth of the photovoltaic industrial technology in Singapore, and was named an honouree of the Spirit of Enterprise Award in 2017. He is also a member on the NTU College of Engineering Advisory Board.
Frank holds an Honours degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Applied Science in Material Engineering.
Robert YAP Min Choy
Independent Director and Chairman of the Board
Robert is a Singaporean business leader involved in several councils and company boards primarily in healthcare, technology, renewable energy, maritime logistics and capital markets.
He is also currently the Chairman and Independent Director of Fullerton Systems & Services and Skylab Holding, a board director with the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Jurong Port, and an advisor to Jubilee Partners and Charge+ Pte Ltd.
Robert joined DFS Group Limited in 2004 and was President and board member of DFS Venture Singapore and concurrently Corporate EVP for Global Business Services at DFS Group, until his retirement in 2014. Prior to DFS, he was CEO for East Asia at PSA International. Between 2006 to 2014, he was also a member of IBM Corporation Global Advisory Board based in New York. His past board directorships of SGX-listed companies included CWT and FRONTLINE Technologies.
Robert also serves in several tertiary institutions. He is current Chairman at the Singapore Management University, Institute of Service Excellence and SMU School of Informations, and council member of the University of New South Wales Singapore.
Robert has a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) and a Masters of Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales in Sydney (UNSW), where he is a member of the Singapore Advisory Council.
Bill Teck Huat CHUA
After a distinguished banking career of over thirty-four years, Bill retired from United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) in November 2014. He was then Managing Director and Head, Global Financial Institutions. He has had management responsibilities in the front, middle and back offices at Citibank, Overseas Union Bank (OUB) & UOB. He has led and closed major deals in capital markets, investment banking and transaction banking. In operations, he successfully integrated the back offices of OUB into UOB. Bill was also on the boards of several bank owned subsidiaries and joint ventures companies.
Bill is currently an independent director on the boards of Sunseap Group Pte Ltd, Citibank Singapore Limited, Defence Science & Technology Agency, Boardroom Executive Services Limited, and Green Sands Equity Inc. In the past, he was on Jurong International, a JTC Corporation subsidiary; CLS AG, the holding company of CLS Bank & CLS Services Ltd; Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited and Singapore Technologies Kinetics Limited. He heads up the GRC committees at these boards.
Bill is a Colombo Plan Scholar and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) and a Bachelor of Engineering Honours Class 1 (Industrial) from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is a Fellow at the Singapore Institute of Directors.
Ms Somruedee CHAIMONGKOL
Somruedee currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since April 2015 and has been actively involved in the growth of Banpu since its early years. Somruedee is also Banpu’s first female Director and CEO.
From 2001 – 2006, Somruedee served as the Senior Vice President of Finance and overseen the finance department at Banpu. She became the Chief Financial Officer of Banpu in 2006, and has since managed several landmark financial transactions including power project financings of large IPPs in Thailand (BLCP) and Laos (Hongsa), and also played major roles in the IPO of Banpu’s Indonesian coal business (ITM) and the acquisition financing of a major coal group in Australia (Centennial). During her tenure, Somruedee also established an investor relations programme within Banpu which received widespread recognition for its forward-approach with disclosure and transparency.
Somruedee has received various recognitions from finance polls and magazines, including the ‘Best CFO’ award from FinanceAsia – a leading financial magazine and website in Asia under the Haymarket Group.
Somruedee graduated with an accounting degree from Bangkok University, and has post-graduate certifications from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration; including the Program of Global Leadership.
Melvyn is a Principal and Group Executive Partner of Thirdrock Pte Ltd, a Singapore-incorporated financial and investment services firm that supervises assets in for clients based in Asia.
Prior to Thirdrock Pte Ltd, he spent over a decade at Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC, where he last held the appointment of Executive Director, Private Investor Products Group (Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities). His expertise lies in direct investment advisory and portfolio management for ultra-high net worth Asian clients and family offices, equity derivatives structuring and marketing.
Melvyn is also an angel and early stage investor. He has led numerous investments and co-invested alongside institutions such as Spring Seeds and National Research Foundation, as well as investment firms such as Goldman Sachs and Khosla Ventures. He is a Partner and Director of TRIREC Pte Ltd, a renewable energy investment firm that focuses on projects and companies in sustainability and de-carbonization.
Melvyn is also active in his community, where he acts as the District Councillor in South West Community Development Council, Singapore. Melvyn graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Business Administration (High Distinction) degree.
Kanokwan is the Managing Director (MD) at Banpu Infinergy Co., Ltd. Kanokwan began her career at Banpu in November 2017, when she joined the Legal Department and took on the role of contract management, project M&A, and legal matters at Banpu.
Prior to Banpu, she worked at a Japanese Law firm, Ariya Tax and Corporate Services Co., Ltd. as a legal counsel, rendering legal consultation on M&A investment, tax, and corporate matters from 2003 – 2007. Her professional career started at Toyota Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and subsequently a Teaching Assistant of the Law School at the Private Law Division of Thammasat University.
Kanokwan graduated from LL.B. and LL.M. from the Law School of Thammasat University. Her other qualifications include, a LL.B 2nd Class Honours and Diploma in Law, from Thammasat University, Thailand, a Diploma of Intellectual Property Law from ATOS, Japan, and a Diploma of Chinese Training Legal Base from China Law Society, China.
Stephen is the Head of Shell technology Ventures (STV), Silicon Valley and Asia. He co-leads STV’s Future Mobility and Digital Transformation investment teams globally. A dual UK/US citizen, Steve has lived and worked extensively in the US, Europe and Asia.
Steve also served as a venture capitalist and private equity investor in Silicon Valley and New York for over 15 years, where he took part in founding, financing, and actively managing early-stage technology companies. His previous professional appointments include a 12 year stint at Spencer Trask, where he served as the Chief Executive Officer. He has over a decade of experience as a business strategist with a focus on growth strategy, innovation and new venture creation. Stephen holds an MA in Physics from Cambridge University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
